Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening

What is a Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Screening?

A PAD Screening is a test that uses doppler technology to detect narrowing of the arteries in your legs known as peripheral arterial disease.

How is it performed?

You will be asked to lie on your back while standard blood pressure cuffs are placed around your ankles and arms. These cuffs will be inflated briefly above your normal systolic blood pressure. Once the cuffs are deflated, blood pressure measurements are taken using a Doppler instrument which are then recorded.

How does it work?

The ankle systolic pressures are divided by the highest arm pressure to establish an ABI measurement for each leg. This test is completely painless and will take approximately 10 minutes.

PAD screening can detect serious problems early before symptoms are present and when treatment is most successful.
